what after recv EAD ??shld i apply for SSn

hi
i am on H1 visa ...my wife being in H4 visa with our 1140 and 485 still pending i had applied for an EAD for my wife and recv the same
shld my wife apply for an SSN before applying for a job / can she work just on EAD card???
and i understand that once she starts using EAD CARD her H4 status gets invalid so if my i140 and 485 is still pending ,my visa and my wifes is expiring by next yr feb can she apply for extension of h4 visa?????
I DO NOT intend to go on EAD UNTIL MY I140 GETS CLEARED
i suppose she cant na? she has to renew ead only ....na.... pls correct me if i am wrong
and how soon shld ead card be renewed?????

AND IF SHE DOSENT OPT TO USE EAD CARD REMAIN ON H4 WILL THAT AFFECT gc IN ANYWAY ???? DO I HAVE TO RENEW EAD STILL ???

--> She does not need SSN to start working. She can start working on EAD, but employer will need SSN for tax purposes (meaning she needs to atleast apply for SSN when she start working. She should let her employer know that she has applied and will be receiving one soon).

--> Yes, once she starts using EAD, H4 becomes invalid and her status will be governed by 485 pending. If she starts using EAD, no point in filing 539 for her H4 extension. If your 485 is denied (hope not!!), she will become out of status and will have leave and re-enter US on H4 (provided you are still on H1). Even if she does not use EAD, you can opt not to extend her H4 status, as her status will be governed by 485, but not recommended. So, if she is not going to work, keep extending her H4 along with your H1.

--> Great idea. To be absolutely safe, keep H1 status until AOS is approved.

--> No, using or not using EAD has no effect on AOS. Also, you can choose not to renew EAD if she is not planning to work.

/ can she work just on EAD card???
--- she can work with EAD but your I-140 is still pending if I-140 gets denied then EAD AP, I-485 all will get denied, better she start working after your I-140 gets approved

---- one is allowed to keep EAD, AP and H4 at the same time, you can also keep EAD ,AP it is up to you if you want to use EAD or want to remain on H1 or H4 status, I will maintain H1 and H4 status till the time I-140 is not approved and pending I-485 does not hit 180 days

- if you maintain H1 or H4 status and have EAD it is up to you if you want to renew EAD or not

EAD and SSN

Hi guys,

I have applied for my wifes EAD too and here is my question.

If she uses her EAD to get her SSN does it mean she had used her EAD and is no longer on H4? Or does it mean that she has used her EAD only after she takes up a job?

----- she will be on H4 if applies for SSN, if she works with EAD then she will not be on H4
Or does it mean that she has used her EAD only after she takes up a job?
