Welcome notice received. Question?

I received the Welcome Notice on Friday (07/20). Hopefully I should receive the physical green card within a couple of weeks.

I have already quit the company which sponsored my GC. Could someone please answer my below questions:

1. Do I need to go and work for the company which sponsored my GC?

2. Can I open my own company on the side as soon as I get my GC?

Sorry dont have the answers to your questions, but can you tell me how many days after you got the approval email did you get the welcome notice?
Also what exactly does the welcome notice say? Does it have any instructions to follow before getting actual G card?

Working for 6 months for your GC sponsor is considered safe! If you have invoked AC-21 & joined another employer (even without informing USCIS), continue with that employer in same or similar job for atleast 6 months after getting GC.

2. Can I open my own company on the side as soon as I get my GC?

Yes. (You could have done it when you were on EAD too! Only restriction is you can't start a S-Corp unless you have GC)

maverick13 - I got the welcome notice 3 days after I got the approval email. The welcome notice says 'welcome to the US as a permanent resident and that the you will receive the actual card in 3 weeks'.

There are no instructions to follow before getting actual G card in the welcome notice.

We got our 485 approved on 07/17/07 and we received the approval notices and the 'CARDS' on 07/23/2007 but not the 'Welcome Notice'. IS it a important document to receive from USCIS ? If so, Can we contact TSC to get the welcome notice ?

You are fine if you have received the cards and approval notices.
TSC morons are too busy to welcome us
