My wife I, want to do a Legal Guardianship for our grandaughter Miho Suzuki. We will become her Legal Guardian.
Miho Suzuki has Japanese citizenship and is currently out of status.
Miho's mother, Agnes Suzuki came to the US on a Visitors Visa on July 11, 2009. On January 11, 2010 she will be out of status. She plans to overstay and remain in the US permanently.
My grandaughter's entry into the US was different from her mother's even though they came here together. Miho came here on a Visa Waiver instead of a Visitor Visa. Miho is already out of status.
Agnes is married to a Japanese citizen who is still living in Japan. Agnes is originally from the Philippines and only moved to Japan because she married a Japanese citizen.
I am Agnes's Step-Father. I am married to Agnes's mother.
Agnes's mother is originally from the Philippines. She will become a US citizen in about 2 years because of having married me.
We originally wanted to legally adopt Miho Suzuki but an Adoption Lawyer told us that it would be complicated, expensive and time consuming due to our particular situation.
Again, My wife I, want to do a Legal Guardianship for our grandaughter Miho Suzuki. We will become her Legal Guardian. We are hoping that a Legal Guardianship will help Miho's situation. But we don't know for sure if it will help her situation or not. We are just hoping that it will.
Can anyone tell us if doing a Legal Guardianship is a good idea or a bad idea?
If it is a good idea, Can anyone tell us who we should contact to have a Legal Guardianship done?
Also, We would welcome any suggestions to help Agnes and Miho stay here permanently.
