I got the folowing email:

"On 14-sept- 2005, after approving your application, we ordered you a new card. Your card will be mailed to you as soon as it is ready."

Any ideas, when I can expect the physical card.

Need to travel to India. Just wondering how soon I can get my plastci card now after this message?

thanks

Thanks rams76.
I am still waiting for the plastic card to receive. Hopeing to get it soon.

p_card,

I got the message "we ordered ..." on 09/06/05. Then, on 09/0905 the message changed to "card mailed..." I got it in mail on 09/12/05.

how long did it take?

Hi All,

I wonder how long did it take you from the day you request a new card (I assumed via I-90) until you get the notice that your card will be mailed?

Thanks a bunch.

Question on Passport Stamping

I and my wife rcvd 485 approval today ( 30th sep 2005) . JIT !!!

The current status for both of us is "On September 30, 2005, after approving your application, we ordered you a new card. Your card will be mailed to you as soon as it is ready".

My question is whether it is compusory to get Passport stamping done (I 551). I think physical cards should come in reasonable time (Possibly before the time i get an Infopass appointment ) based on the above status and i do not have any travel plans for next 3 or 4 months. Also if it is not compusory is it advisable to get PP stamping done.

Thanks in Advance.

No you do not need to. Should get your card within 2-3 weeks. Stamping only if you need to travel before that. That was the old system when cards took months to come. Not any more.

Thanks

Thanks Arizonian for clearing that up.

Can u also give me your opinion on another situation we have. Our approval came on 30th Sep 2005 although we have not received the mail notice yet. My wife is to join a new job on Monday. Will we be breaking any rules if she uses her EAD for I-9 Puposes ? My logic is that if We had not build a portfolio online on the USCIS Site We would never have known about the approval till the actual notice came and we would have ended up using the EAD.

Thanks.

One becomes a permanent resident the day the 485 is approved. The remaining paperwork is just a proof that you are. So, if your wife's 485 is approved, she is a permanent resident.

You cannot use an EAD once you become a permanent resident.

Your employer may or may not require more proof and may require you to either produce a GC or ask you to go for stamping. She can discuss this with her employer, and the employer's lawyer can confirm that it is legal for her to work. The best thing would be to show up on Monday with a printout of the 485 approval and explain this to her employer. I don't see any problems this way.

The general trend has been that these days, you get your GC by 2-3 weeks, and hence stamping is all but un-necessary.

How to Track

Our Green cards were approved on Sept 21 2005. We received Welcome Notices on Oct 3 2005. It says we will receive the cards in 3 weeks time. How can I track if the cards have been mailed or ordered. There is a new LIN number on the welcome notice. Should I use that to track. Please advise.

Thanks, k512

You can track it at uscis's website. You will have to use your new receipt numbers. We applied on 9/14/05 and received the physical card on 10/1/05. So, just < 3 weeks. It comes from Mesquite, TX.

Go to this website: https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/caseStat.jsp

You need to put in your receipt number. It is a 10 digit number preceeded by WAC/LIN/SRC etc.

LIN xxxxxxxxxx

You will get the latest update on your case (mostly)

Thanks Again.
