There's a subcommittee hearing. Great..... then it needs to go to full commitee for markup, then a vote by the whole House. Then the entire process needs to be repeated on the Senate side. And then you need to do a conference committee, and only then the President needs to approve it.

Don't get anxious.

I listened to most of it on c-span

Here is a snapshot:

Arguments for and against the L-1 visa were made and the concern was that it was being abused in terms of prevailing wage and not paying taxes. Indian companies like Wipro and Tata were mentioned by name and the practice of blanket L-1 was questioned.

H-1 visa was largely spared of any bashing as most felt that it was being administered properly. The general impression was that the whole idea behind creating these Visa categories was not being met.

One observation was that the outsourcing of tech jobs cannot be stopped as this is being driven by market forces and a few minor changes in immigration law will not amount to anything.

Members were asked to submit any further arguments before Friday and the hearing was adjourned.

Overall it looks like L-1 rules will be tightened and the H-1 cap will remain at 65,000.
