I have no idea wher to put this sorry

I am currently at secondary school in England and have made with my parents the HUGE decision of moving to the US in two years when i finish. Instead of going to colledge here I want to go to college (I believe they call it Graduate schhol) and University there. My dad works for the worldwide company Reichold, and my mum works for ASDA which is owned by Wal-Mart . They are with me on this decision but we wonder if we will be allowed to immigrate to the USA. My dad could try to ask his work for a transfer to 1 of the 8 plants in America, but he is over 50 and they may not let him transfer, even if they do, can over 50's immigrate to the states and would this be enough to get me and my mum over too? (there is just us three in the family)
If he is not allowed over for his work is it possible to immigrate for the reason you want to go to college and university there? if this is a possibility will my mum and dad be able to come over too?
This is a dream I really want to become a reality and if it doesn't happen when i'm young I will immigrate when i'm older, but i'd really love my parents to come too.
I know theres alot of questions here, sorry about that, but please take time to answer them and make any suggestions that could help me.
Many Thanks

Well, this is a forum of marriage and family based. So I will give you some info and some links that help you to clarify that immigrate is not a one way decision.

1. In the US the only way to legally immigrate are:
a. Through a family member, means that you must have a family member that is a US citizen or a legal US permanent resident. There are several categories.
b. Through Employment. There are different categories in this one and it is not as easy as you get an offer for whatever company.
c. By diversity lottery visa. Some countries can apply, you must check out the Department of State for this category. As the name indicates it's a lottery you can apply to see if you can win an immigrant visa.
d. By Asylum.

2. Your father can verify with his company if they can transfer him and they are the one who must do the process. A transferee normaly can bring their family with them, a transferee is not an immigrant visa it's a non-immigrant visa.

3. A student visa is a non-immigrant visa.

All non-immigrant visas as the name indicate are not for immigrate are for a specific means and they have their limitations.

For more information you can go to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services official website or USCIS: www.uscis.gov

For information on Diversity Visa and others visas you can go to the Department of State: http://www.state.gov/misc/59452.htm

Good luck,

If I go as a student I will be on the F1 visa, this can then be upgraded to an H1B if i get a job (is that right) ?
If this is right how long can I stay in the US with the H1B? Also can the H1B be upgraded to something permanent if I get married or can the company i got the H1B with do something to make it permanent ?
Thanks again

As I said this is a forum of marriage based and family.

Yes, a person can obtain a F1 visa and if it's lucky and if the employer wants to sponsor them a H1B then they can get a H1B visa. To go on...there are people who has been through all that. It takes years but it's possible.

There is no such thing of "upgrade" a visa. A company can (if they want) sponsor the immigrant visa that is what it's so called "through employment". There are categories for it, as I said, and that depends in the type of job and many other things.

You can check out the links given to you or you can go to the respective forum in this portal, there is a forum for student visas, H1B and permanent residency through employment.
