I came to USA on H4 status and am still on it. I am looking for a job. If some employer hires me what am i or the employer need to do in order to change my status rom H4 to H1. Can you suggest me what is the best way to convert my h4 to h1 without having to leave USA?

I have heard it from people that if we want to convert from H4 to H1 we have to go back to our home country. is it true?

Also tell me the whole procedure, what forms we need to send in order to change our status from H4 to H1 without having to leave USA?

I was on H1-B (employer based in Chicago) and moved to H4 status two years back. I am looking out for a job, and in turn trying to reactivate the H1-B for an employer in Los Angeles. In this context, I have couple of questions:
1. What is the lead time I should account for moving from H4 to H1 on regular processing and premium processing?
2. Can I start working once I get a receipt or acknowledgement from USCIS, or do I need to wait for H1-B to be approved and then file a COS from H1 to H1 to start working.
