Walk-in Finger Print - what is the purpose?

I've read mention of walk-in FP by some here..what is the purpose of this? Is it helpful?

Does showing up whenever work?

The most popular reason is because people don't have time on the date and at the time of their scheduled appointment. Some people also think and hope that an early walk-in FP will speed up their process. This second reason is why I went early, but I don't think it worked.

Does walk-in literally imply walking in without notice? Or do you have to call ahead? Do you have to show proof of not being available on the day you are scheduled.

The answers are Yes, No, and No respectively.

Don't call ahead; they will almost always say No on the phone. They make the decision of whether to accept a walk-in based on how busy they are at the moment, so they don't want to say Yes on the phone because they could get filled up with more people before you get there. So just show up unannounced and see what happens.

When you get there, don't mention anything about the different date. Just hand over the FP notice and act as if everything is normal, and they might not even notice the date difference.

walk in appointment

to me walk in "appointment" means save some time. I had my FP appointment a month later the day I received letter. I did my FP walk in very next day I received my FP letter. So I saved at least one month.

Thanks.

It's not like you save actual time on the whole process or is it? For example, let's say avg. processing time is 5 months, were you able to complete the entire process in 4 months? Or more importantly were you able to save 30 days over the people who applied at the same time/same place as you but did not do the walk-in? Just curious...

Also, since you can apply 90days early -- I am guessing no matter how fast they process it you are not going to speed it up before that 90 days is over because that would mean you would get your USC before the actual 5yrs is up.

Can anyone answer this?

I think from the timelines I have seen you do not save time. Lets say that your FP appointment is January 20. You get the letter on January 10. You go in for a walk-in FP on Jan 11. Your online status will not change to interview and testing until after the FP date of Jan 20. At least thats what I see in timelines.

Anyone confirm or dispute?

It is all guess work whether it affects overall time line or not..

The basic idea behind walk-in provision is to make sure that if someone couldn't makeup on scheduled appointment day/time, they offered flexibility by allowing walk-in. Based on your situation, decide if you could make on scheduled date/time or not. I did mine on scheduled date/time and still I am seeing that I am within more or less same time line compared to others in Atlanta DO.

On the same note?

Are all ASC offices open only 8 to 5 Mon-Fri, is there an option to go past 5 on a weekday or any day on the weekend?

Thanks!

I am interested to know the later question regarding the 90 days early. Any thoughts?

If your interview finishes before 5 year anniversary date, they put your application in RFE mode until that date so his point about very valid. Look for posting on this forum by ProudPal.

Hello all,

I did a walk in for FingerPrinting at the Chicago Broadway Application Support Center. I was initially scheduled for 7th November 2012 and my wife for 8th November 2012. Today is 29 October 2012.

The office was empty. However, the officer at the entry desk looked at the appointment letters and asked why we are coming in early when our appointment date is 1 week later. I said that we may be out of town at that time. He asked 'Do you have plane tickets' - This was weird. I said 'No - We will be travelling locally out of town'. He then asked 'When will you be travelling out of town'....

Finally - he told us to come on the morning of the day of our travel. He handed over to us the "Applicant Information Worksheet" and requested us to have it filled and it will be quick on that day.

So we will have to go back on 7th November 2012 at 8 am... which is just 1 day earlier than our allotted time.

Thanks
Abdul

I did early walk-in in ATL because I was already going to be in the vicinity of the support center, 2 weeks before my scheduled date (I had the letter with me, and my GC & passport). Saved me a 70-mile round-trip special trip if I'd come back on the actual day. It was quiet there that day/time, they were happy to accommodate. I knew they might turn me away - but being that I was already within 5 miles of the support center for other business, it was worth it for me to try.

Was placed in line for interview 2 business days later - but I'm still waiting for IL - this is now day 92 later...so I can't say whether or not it speeds things up. But it did save me lost time to do it that day instead of making a special trip back again.
