Waiting for parent green card

Hi,

I am a US citizen and I submitted an I-130 form about three months ago for my father who lives in Venezuela. I received an application confirmation a few weeks later.

I was told by a friend that once the I-130 application is in process he can not apply for a tourist visa. Is this true?

Is there any other way for him to travel into the United States while the I-130 is in process?

A visitor visa is for non-immigrant purpose. So it doesnt make sense to apply for a non-immigrant visa when there is an immigrant petition applied on his behalf. Though the visitor visa may be approved, there "MIGHT" be problems at the POE while entereing the US.

There is no other way except to wait for the GC to be approved before travelling.
