Waiting Asylum decision

Perhaps they sent a decision in mail and you'll get one in person as well?
I think they typically notify people about delay in decision via the phone call and not through the letter.

Good luck today on the pickup. I wish you an approval.
The decision pickup notice clearly states that USCIS will not notify you of the decision before that date. Also, there are many users on this forum who received a letter between their interview and pickup date notifying them of decision delay and to expect it in the mail instead so its possible

Here is an update:

I went to Arlington office on my pickup date and was told by a worker that my decision pickup date has been rescheduled to 3 weeks later and I must pick it up in person. When I went home, I received and read USCIS letter which had a new pickup notice with the same date mentioned by the worker from the office.

This is NEW, typically if your in-person decision pickup gets delayed, you wait for the decision in the mail but I guess having a pickup date is better than waiting indefinitely, it could also signal that my decision is very close to completion that they feel confident it will be ready in 3 weeks. Although I don't really trust them they may end up delaying it again who knows.

Thoughts?

Having a specific date is very good sign in my opinion. Both for the case and your mental health.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for letting me know that sometimes they send a letter instead of calling about the delayed decision.
Learning something new every day about this system:)

Thank you for those encouraging words, they probably know by now if it's approval or referral. Would be very cruel of them to ask you to come back only to refer you in person, when they can just send it in the mail. I will definitely keep you updated as we are all in this together

if they lean on referring you to the court, why would they delay your decision? i wonder if anyone's here decision got delayed and received a referral to the court.

Happens all the time, some people waited one year for a decision only to be referred, everyone goes through the same background check process regardless of the outcome, the idea being if you go to court and the judge approves you, this can't happen before you pass the background checks first.

I don’t think it’s a referral, but never get too optimistic even though your case is going in a positive direction, and I have seen a trend where ppl are getting called back for pick up in 3 weeks from Arlington office, which is a good things

i don’t really understand how background check works, like people who get their decision within 2 weeks get a faster background check? Doesn’t really make sense I feel like it’s another generic excuse, if they took a year to decide on something they prolly forget to review it or lost the file and they just rejecting you.

Agreed on background checks. I did background checks for my work (FBI, DOJ, etc.). They all came back within a week or two.
So I'm sure that's not why my decision is pending for 12 months now:)
Some cases are just overlooked in my opinion.

Yeah, that’s why you shouldn’t stop calling and ombudsman!

Honestly, I don't think that calling, emailing or ombudsman-ing has any effect at all.
I did all this for 7 years while waiting for an interview. No result until I did WOM.
I was doing all the same stuff during these 12 months with no result as well. I think that sometimes WOM is the only way to get the result.

I disagree.
" Dealing with Delayed Decisions: . . . .One common reasons is the security background check. Before a case can be granted, each applicant is subject to a background check . . . . . While background check delays are common for Asylum Office cases, they are almost non-existent for Immigration Court cases. Why this should be, I do not know. I once asked a prior Asylum Division Director about the discrepancy, and the only explanation I received was that the background checks are different at the two different agencies." asylumist.com/2021/06/02/dealing-with-delayed-decisions/

Doesn’t really make sense, pick up decisions in 2 weeks get a fast background checks? And mail out cases most certainly gets delayed for a review for the most part but at some point the rhetoric will change to “background checks”, it doesn’t really make sense unless they are using this as an excuse
