VWP, Ports of Entry, Frequency and Cuddly Toys

Hi everyone. I was a first time visitor to the States in June of this year. I stayed for 30 days and came back last Saturday. I entered via Philly Airport on the VWP and had no problem with the immigration. Now I have plans to return in 5 weeks for 90 days. You've probably already guessed there is a romantic reason. My girlfriend and I want to see if we can live together before we apply for the K-1 visa as this is obviously a big step.

So now the questions, I have read all sorts of horror stories of people being turned down at Immigration for abusing the VWP. Will I be classed as an abuser? I have been to the States only once in my life and that was in June for 30 days, there is a 5 week gap between visits. The problem I see is that because I am employed as a temp I have no employment record and work only intermittantly. I am taking the 3 months off after borrowing the money off my Dad. I can't take an IOU addressed to my Dad can I? That would be silly. I am also entering via a different point of entry, Detroit Wayne County Airport to be prescise.

I have a printed Itinery with the return flight on and a reciept indicating I left the country on July 7th 2006. I plan to return again on August 18th. My stamp on my Passport indicates I could have stayed until September 8th 2006 is this a problem?

Any help will be appreciated and the cuddly toy? Well I got searched at Philly and it caused much merriment amongst the Customs officers.

No I stayed down there for 90 days under to see my bf and I was never questioned about the lenght of my stay. Last year I actually stayed for 5 months, and I came back to Canada by bus (when you come back by bus the US customs comes on the bus to see who's on it) and they bought me inside and asked me a bunch of questions. They were just kinda trying to see my intentions and caught me in a lie. They called my bf and the person who I was going to be staying with when I came back home, asked them pretty much the same questions as they asked me. The officer must have thought I was lying lol. Then after the phone calls ending he came back in the room, gave me my id and said I could leave! Now since then I haven't tried to get back in the US, but I'm planning on going in 2 weeks for 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll get through. But you shouldn't have any problems, they just ask a lot of questions if anything. Do they know you're going there to visit your gf from your last visit???? If they don't, in a way you're better off not telling them. It just causes more suspiscion.

As a Canadian citizen, you did NOT enter using the VWP.

ok....well as a visitor

Yes, but it's important to note that entering as an undocumented Canadian B-2 is very different from entering under the VWP, in areas such as length of stay and the possibility for illegal presence. One should not assume that experiences entering under one scenario are applicable to others.

TheRealCanadian, do you think since I stayed down there for 5 months that I'll have problems going to through customs on my next visit? Canadians can visit for up to 6 months, is that correct?
