I talked with an IIO. She was very co-operative. Here is what went on:
After initial pleasantries, and verification of identity:
Me: I called in to enquire about my Card Order Date.
She: (she does not understand my request.) we received your I-89 data and are in the process of producing the card.
Me: when is it that you received the I-89 ?
She: 4/12/02. allow us 4-6 weeks to complete the procedure.
(it was stamped on 4/4/02 in Hartford. in my last enquiry about my son\'s card, they had given the same timeline: 30-45 days.)
Me: Isn\'t it that you place orders for card somewhere else? I understand it is produced somewhere in Texas.
She: No. We produce it right here.
(now i change the topic)
Me: Is it true that INS has stopped the process of GC approvals in the light of the restructuring?
She: No, sir. We are approving. Only thing is that we are doing more of background checking so it is taking more time.
Me: Oh. So it is apart from the FBI checking with the fingprinting process ? Is this verification done with the home country ?
She: (she does not sound certain of the detail. she repeats.) we do a little bit more of the background checking and find out more detail.... kind of statement.
Usual pleasantries, and then I hang up.
