visitor visa question

Hello,

My parents were denied visitor visa, at mumbai consulate on may 31st, under 214b. They were asked how many months they intended to stay in usa, and when my parents said 6 months, visa was rejected.

We are planning to re apply for visa, but this time, only for my mother. She takes private tuitions. She is intending to give period of stay only for 1 month.
Since I have a younger sister in college in India and since my father will be in India too, will it make the chances of my mother getting visa, higher? Is it a good option that my mom goes alone for visa, or should both my mom and dad go?

Please help. Thanks.

Nobody knows

If you have read some of the other threads, you must have realized that the consulates can deny a case based on their gut feeling. Cases are not denied after reviewing your background, your case history or your supporting documents. If you are a little lucky they may review your supporting documents (sponsorship letter etc.). If you are really lucky, they will approve your case after asking a couple of questions.

My in-laws situation is similar to your case. They applied together and their case was rejected. Then my mother-in-law applied on her own and the case was rejected. This is not to imply that your mothers case will be rejected as well. Your mother might just get the visa.

There is no 'general trend' or any 'logical approach' that you can use to increase chances of approval. Once a case is rejected, it is pretty much sheer luck from that point on. If you think it it worth the trouble keep trying different things after every denial (changing number of months for 6 to 3, single individual applying instead of two, paying a travel agent for advice, requesting a translator during interview.)

I am not trying to dissapoint you, but sadly this is how things are at the US consulate.

This is a free forum to help each other. Not for solicitors. If any one wants private advise they will go to their choice.
ACVAKIL please if you have any useful advise (we know you do not have one) , let every body knows.
Do not trap any victims, as we know you can not do anything with US embassy. This is not an Indian politics.
