Hi,

My parents' interview is scheduled for later this month.

I provided a formal invitation letter in English printed (not hand written). Is it better to have hand written invitation letter in the native language (with
translation attached)?

My parents have no intention of staying here, but how do they prove it
beyond any doubt?

My father is retired.
My mother does not work.
I have a younger brother (married, works).
They own a house in our home town.
They have brothers and sisters (my uncles/aunts) who they visit regularly.
They have other social and religios ties (visiting various temples/teerhtksetra etc.)

What are their chances?

Thank you very much for your help.

PS. Documents I have provided I134, bank letter, letter from employer, bank statements (2), pay stubs(3), w2(3)

You can submit the invitation letter in English and it can be printed. There is no reason to hand write the letter.

Remember that the onus of proving that they will not immigrate is on your parents.
Of all the points that you have mentioned, only point four regarding the house is useful.

The first two points in fact work against your parents. Point 3 is neutral. There is no easy way to prove the last two points.

One word of advice is to take all documents which show ties to India. These could be

(1) Property documents showing ownership clearly.
(2) Land records/Pension payments receipt.
(3) Bank balance.
(4) Clear plans on what they will do in US including entry and planned exit dates and places planned for visiting etc.

Hope this helps...

Hi Techie,

Thanks for your reply.

I understand that there are no hard numbers but what ammount of bank balance in India is usefull, rough range (>5 lakh, > 10 lakh, >20lakh )

Thanks.

I am assuming that you are providing your parents with an I-134 Affidavit of support which clearly states that you will be responsible for their airfare, lodging and boarding expenses.

As you mention, there are no hard and fast rules on the amount of bank balance. Also, it depends on how many weeks/months they plan on staying in the US. Generally, just a couple of lakhs is good enough in a bank account.

In case your parents are self sponsored, they need to show significantly higher bank balance to prove that they will not be a public liability of the US Government.

Hope your parents get a 10 year multiple entry visa ....

Hi Techie,

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have provided I134 with supporting documents.

Best Regards.
