Visitor visa extension

Hi,

My mom is currently in US(visitor visa) with I-94 valid for 6 months. How much time before the 6 month expiration can I apply for visa extension. Normally how much extension can we apply?
What documents are required? Please help, I have no idea about visitor visa.

an extension should be applied for EMERGENCIES and UNEXPECTED, UNPLANNED situations that merit more than a 6 month stay.

What is the reason for this extension? it is evidently something that didn't "just happened".

Questions you need to ask yourself

1. Do you have a strong convincing reason to request an extension of stay even after spending 6 months?
2. Regarding how much extension, you need to decide based on the need, provided you have a valid answer to question #1.
3. Refer to the I-539 instruction sheet for all the documents required and when you need to apply.


Remember one thing, if the extension request is denied and the visitor stayed past the original I-94 date, then their 10 yr visa can be potentially cancelled by the CBP officer as per rule 222(g). Though some have come back, there is no guarantee that this will not happen.

If you don't have a valid reason don't waste your money and put their 10 yr visas in jeopardy.

You forgot to mention the most important piece of information. For what reason does your mother need to extend her six month stay?

Please help, I have no idea about visitor visa.
