Visitor Insurance Help ( No Immigration Content)

Hi,
My parents are visiting me this April. I am wondering if I should ask them to get the Medical Insurance from India. All the plans in India seem to be administered by CorisUSA (http://www.corisheritage.com).

The attractive part of this is that it is cheaper (about $600 per person for 6 months) and the limit is about $500000 (yup half a mill) plus all kinds of travel/lost luggage insurance thrown in.

The unattractive part is that unless it is for emergencies we need to go through CorisUSA to get appointments to doctors. They do not seem to be inclined to give out a directory of doctors who accept their plan. Also I do not want to be given the runaround if I do ever need to get a claim reimbursed (god forbid)

I was wondering if any of you have any experience with Coris or any of the following companies for travel insurance for their parents.
United India Insurance
Oriental Insurance Company
National Insurance Company
New India Assurance Company

All these companies seem to use Coris USA as their plan administrator.

Any Info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I apologise if anyone minds that this post does not belong here. Sorry.

AVOID health insurances from India.

Psmith,

I would strongly advise you NOT to buy any insurance from Indian run companies for travel and stay in USA and Coris!!! my god they are horrible!!!

Let me put my experience. My parents took New India Assurance - Coris insurance during their previous visit to US. Both my parents are healthy but my dad a pain in his tooth and needed a doctor's visit. Called Coris and they gave two options choose our own doctor or go to their recommended doctor. I said it is okay for us to go to a doctor of their (insurance) choice and asked them to send the approval to the doctor themself.

The procedure cost around ~$320 out of which insurance said they would cover only $240. Accepted and paid the difference. But the insurance never paid the doctor for over two years. I received repeated calls and collection agency threats from the doctors office I the mean time I was trying to work out with Coris and those ba****ds did not want to pay at all. They always said they are sending a check and never did. One fine day I threatned legal action and scared them saying that the conversation is recorded and then the sent a check after ~2.6 years.

My concern it if they create such a ruckus for a small bill of then god only know what help you can get in an emergency.

Hope this helps!

Two year back I had International Medical Group insurance for In laws. Couple times I want doctor for same miner cold and other . Over the conter I paid full payment. I after the I submiited all bill to Insurance company I got my refund all bill but You have to followup with company . If you do not followup they will not send the check . Send the bill origanal with register post and keep the photo copy with you.

How about ICICI Lombard issued in India

In the past, I used the "Atlas America" plan issued by Multinational Underwriters, and Indiana based company who are underwriters for Lloyds Insurance UK.
I had heard good things about them. Never had to use them though.

This time, I looked into TATA-AIG Travel Insurance and ICICI Lombard, both issued in India.

My parents are planning to get ICICI Lombard for their 3 months visit to USA. This works best for my father who is 75 yrs.

Anyone has any experience or comments or opinions about ICICI Lombard travel insurance issued in India for foreign travel?

Thanks.

Atlas America is a comprehensive coverage plan for any age. It is a PPO plan, has direct payment with providers in the network, you get health insurance card.

However, ICICI, Tata AIG are only fixed coverage plans for age above 55 years.

It is definitely better to buy insurance from US based company.
