Hi everyone,

I just got to this forum and it is really very informative and i appreciate everyone's effort on here to help each other.

I have a question, I recently sent I485 and still waiting to get the letter from USCIS. My questions are as follow.

1. Roughly how long will it take to get my GC.

2. I want to visit my COP to see my parents who are very sick, and if God forbid something happened to them i wont be able to fogive myself all my life. I am filling I131, and mentinoing it to USCIS that i want to visit COP just to visit my parents do you think there are chances i will be granted permission or not?

3. I recently renewd my NP. There is a column in I131 that asks if I renewd my NP which I did, I will mention that I did, how will it effect my case.

Please advise, all your suggestions will be highly appreciated, and best of luck to everyone whos waiting for their GC.

Thanks

How will the USCIS respond depends on the specifics of your situation. We cannot be general about it. In the past they have terminated asylum grants and I think they will continue to do that in appropriate situations.

Will they cancel the asylum coz i want to travel to COP? I have seen a documentation on web some where, its mentioned that USCIS may allow to visit COP incase of emergency like illness of parents etc.

Am i wrong about it?

They may cancel asylum or they may not. It is a case by case evaluation. The circumstances particular to your case will be the key. You are looking for a firm answer and I am sorry but that answer is not avaialble from anybody.

oh, please.... this topic has been brought up again and again and again...

let me give you an example: recently news are leaking out that nyc is going to install video surveillance inside the subway. of course, in a liberal city like nyc, it triggered a hell lot of complaining. am i concerned? yeah, i am quite liberal, i do value people's privacy, as my own. but am i really so concerned that i have to find out what they videotape me about? nah.... what i can do in the subway station? jack off? come on, i don't even care if they put it on the web, because i know no one wants to looks at ugly guys like me...

just do something right and be worry-free.

Hi GCAPPLICATION06

One of my friend (a derivative asylee)'s father passed away in his COP and he did visit COP in the year 2004 after obtaining advance Parol from USCIS. His asylum status was not terminated and I have already left him a message is his voice mail to find out if he has already received his GC or not... I will simply edit this message once I receive his call

lose it

ok, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Let me give me some thoughts:

if the persecution is NOT from state, I think you are fine (like being gay and facing hostile social environment...)
if the condition is changed, I think you are fine (like the regime is gone.)

if not, then is there any indication that you renewed it? some consulate stamp or cut the corner of old passport. if not, then you may want to talk with an attorney about it..... i can't recommend you lie to the government, but the chances of them going to foreign consulate is quite slim.

Hi windwy,

Thanks for your response, my answers are as follow and will be waiting for comments from yourside.

1. My situation is more like hostile social enviorment. Which is still the same in COP and will remain like this i guess.

2. My new NP is just stappled with the old one, nothing else is stamped on old one, but new NP is stamped that old NP is attached.

I dont want to lie to USCIS about it, but as i explained earlier I want to apply for RTD so I can atleast try to get USCIS permission to visit my COP to see my mother who is very sick. I wrote a detailed note explainign why I want to go there and that I will keep really low profile backhome and will stay just couple of weeks.

Please advice and suggest me what action should I take, I still am in process of filling I131, I wish I saw this forum long time before so I wasnt in this situation. Please tell me how to coupe with all this now.

Thanks alot and congrats to everyone whos GC is approved.

If that is the case, then just state that you renewed and expect some delays, possibly get the case transferred to local office. but it is definitely better than saying no... my opinion... lying to government is always a bad thing. plus a lot of worry... not worth it. too bad the wording in i-485 is pretty clear, otherwise you probably can play some trick on it....
