Visited INS local office (Arlington, VA) to Renew (expired) EAD

Went today to INS Local office in Arlington. I was there at 5:30 and I am glad I went early because the queue was very long by 7:30 (more than 150 people that INS lets in each day).

Along with my I-485 office, even my EAD application that was sent to VSC has been xfered to Arlington, VA. My current EAD has expired. :-( and Its been 75 days from the PD of the 2nd EAD application.

Anyway, INS Information Officer told me that they are going to contact me by mail to pick the EADs up when they are ready (you know what that means). I did mention that my EAD has expired and my employer is unconfortable under the situation. I was told not to worry as I can still work as my EAD has already been applied and to show them the reciept of the same (like my employer is going to listen to that).

Got very conflicting answers for my I-485 case too. I was told that my interview will be scheduled " within 20 months of the transfer to local office". I don\'t think the officer understood what she was saying. My visit was utterly fruitless.

What else to expect from INS? Anyone ever seen this situation before?

Did the officer told you to show the Receipt notice of EAD Renewal application to your employer as a proof of employment authorization? I thought that you cannot use it except in the case of lost or stolen EAD. If this is true then it will be really helpful we don\'t have to file for the renewal 90 days before. Please clearify this...thanks

Conflicting Answers

Hello RFEWAITER-

My feeling was that the officer behind the counter was fairly new. She told me that while I am waiting for the EAD, I can go ahead and show the notice of Receipt (for EAD). She also mentioned that the employers could call the VSC Tel. No to verify this too.
Couple of things she told me did not make sense

1) That I would be interviewed after "20 months of tranfer to the local office" - I think she meant 20 months of the application

2) My EAD application was xfered and she told me about 90 days from the Xfer date (not the notice date of the application originally submitted to Vermont)

You see she sent many conflicting impressions.

I think for
1) she used the standard answer.
2) I am not sure about this. I just got my EAD approved today, it tooks exacly 25 days(RD 7/19 ND 7/20) from VSC. They why the local office should take more time. I am sure they are giving you some standard answers, but actual processing times are generally less than that.

Wish you luck..
