Since my passport has been stamped wondering if I can travel to India before my plastic card arrives. I have been posponing the visit for quite some time and thinking of going as soon as possible. Are there any issues if I go without the plastic card? One of my colleagues has told me that his wife was stranded in Dubai for 2 weeks as they didn't let her go to Paris as she didn't have the plastic card and Paris needs either plastic card or transit visa. I dind't udnerstand the concept but is stamping in passport valid for all practical travel purposes?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It is always best to check with the country consulate where you will be transiting through since different countries have different requirements. Recently a lot of changes have happened.

The issuehere is that the I-551 stamp is not accepted outside the US as a proof of US permanent resident status. As you would have seen, the stamp is very simple and can be easily faked. Because of this many countries do not honour it. Therefore it is advisabel to check with the airlines and the transiting country's consulate, if you will need a transit visa if you do not have the actual plastic card.

Ofcourse in the US, the stamp is accepted and honoured as would the actual plastic GC.
