Visit Home country while Extension of H1B is pendind

My lawyer said He can file Extension of H1B before I goto India. This doesnot effect H1B Extension process.

That means I will go and come back from India while Extension of H1B is pendind with USCIS.

How far is it correct?

If you are filing for an extension of H-1B status, it is acceptable to travel as long as your current H-1B does not expire prior to your return (and, of course, as long as you have a valid H-1B visa in your passport).

I have been told that if the H1 is approved during the travel, one needs to get it stamped in the passport even if the one in the passport is still valid. Is this correct?
