I am planning to travel to Spain in July for a friend's wedding. Does anyone know how long it takes to get a visa or how easy going or fussy they are?

Just curious, do you have any type of travel document? do you intend to use your Passport?

If you intend to apply for a travel document, I suggest that you apply for that travel document ASAP to make sure you have it in time to apply for your visa. Again, I am speaking blinding, since I don't know your original country of citizenship, additionally if you intend to use your passport.

I think an RTD would be used. I have no idea how they treat it, but I think I've read somewhere that they do issue visas to RTD holders. A passport would probably be preferable, but I don't think madasylee has a GC, so that is not advisable.

I visited Spain @ Italy last August, as my first destination was Spain my schengen visa must be issued by that consulate , have not GC yet and not national passport so I took RTD , employment letter, back account , a mayor credit card statement , photos, air+hotel reservation and traveler health insurance and the money order . The wait was long , ( advance , get there ready early or be prepared to wait a long time + there is a maximum amount of number that they distributed , is a busy consulate !!! ) the consul was nice , simple questions simple answers. My visa was approved and I had to pick my RTD only a couple days prior of my trip, they give you they date when you have to pick it up , allow two weeks before your trip to apply (just to be safe ) , they treat the RTD with respect but I could note it is not well known , she did ask for my national passport !. After that was all honey I got into Europe with not problem and not a single question. Took a plane from Madrid to Rome without any problems neither. Overall was a good experience. Go for it and enjoy your trip , come back and let us know about your experience in the consulate ( for me one of the best) and in Europe . ---Angel
