I came to usa 2 years back and converted my status from b2 to f1 status. Now i am planning to go to india for holidays. Is it best to apply for the visa stamping in mexico or canada or india?? Do i have good chances of getting visa stamp for f1 in my passport??? If i do not get the f1 visa, then is my b2 visa still valid or not??? I have b2 visa stamped in my passport till 2013. Can anyone who has information please reply.

Thanks a lot

For short trips to Mexico or Canada you could use your B2 stamp to re-enter (revalidation). However, you can't do that when you apply for a new F-1 visa. The first thing they will do is invalidate all other stamps in your passport. You probably should go to India for the stamping of the F-1 visa, because consulates are often suspicious about B->F status changes. You shouldn't have any problems getting the stamp in India.
