Visa stamping in a third country during official trip

Hi,
Recently, my H1B visa got approved (earlier I was on H4, now changed to H1B). I am working in a non-profit organization, university, as a postdoc research fellow. My employer wants me to travel to South America, Guatemala, for some official work. I don’t have my H1B status stamped on my passport. Q1) Do I need to get the visa status changed in Guatemala, as I am going out of US? Q2) If yes, Is it going to be of any problem to change my visa status at the American embassy in Guatemala or it should be fine?

Thanks in anticipation

Q1) You need H1B stamp to enter the US as H1B status.
Q2) You may be able to get the stamp in Guatemala. At least you have a reason to get it at US embassy in Guatemala, and you can explain. However, there is chance of denial(this is always true whenever one tries to get the visa stamp in 3rd country).
