Visa Stamping clarification...

I got h1b from company \'A\' and worked for 3 years. I transferred H1 to company B. Meanwhile my visa from company \'A\' expired and I have sent my passport to INS for new stamp.

Original Stamping: 10-NOV-1998
Latest Stamping: 20-FEB-2007.

I am confused here. I know that H1B is usually given for six years. In my case it should be around 10-NOV-2004.

Company \'A\' applied for GC and I140 is cleared, before I transferred to company \'B\'.

My new approval notice / petition of company \'B\' says the visa is valid until 20-DEC-2003.

I am in dilemma and would like to know why the expiry dates of visa and petition doesn\'t match.

You have to take care of 6 yrs.

Although there is talk about database cross checking between (DOJ and DOS) , it never happens. It is upto you to follow the 6 yr rule. If you go beyond 6 yr without the mandatory 1 yr break, you are liable for your life time after to be barred at any time. Do you want that sword to hand over your head rest of your life?
Right now, consult your lawyer and either decide to take a 1yr break after h1 6yr expiry or apply for a GC so that by the end of 6yr you can change to GC..
