I have an H1 B and the actual stamp in my passport has an expiration date for the 3rd of February 2005.

I want to go to the UK this christmas from december till first week in january. Would there be a problem cuz my visa stamp expires in february?

Also, if I'm in the clear. What is the procedure for getting a new stamp before it expires?
Thanks!

I think you are OK as long as it concerns coming back to USA. Maybe the British may be worried that you will stay in UK after the expiration date - so call the British consulate to enquire (unless you are British citizen). Also file for H1B extension as soon as possible (it takes months now to get approval- I am waiting since July - unless you want to pay $ 1000, 00 for expedite approval). Carry the H1B extension application receipt with you along with your passport. Or, if you have AP - it works fine too.

thanks stone wall. Actually thats great to hear bcos, I have an ancestry visa to the UK, meaning I can work and stuff if I wanted which is valid for 2 years still, so the immigration wouldnt even care if I wanted to stay in the UK.

Good for you Dejital! Make sure you apply for H1B extension very soon or have AP anyway.

CAn you point me in the right direction to file my extension, I'm so wet behind the ears with this stuff? Whats AP?

for extension file I-129 (my employer did it for me so I don't have the details - but the documentation is basically the same as for the initial H1B), you can wait to apply right before your current H1B status expiration date but you also may file earlier than that, given the waiting time for approval.
AP is Advance Parole, a document that allows you to travel abroad while your I-485 (application for adjustment off status) is pending. If you did not apply for I-485, then forget it and go for H1B extension.
