Hi All,

Gurus!! I am sending the documents for revalidation of Visa. While filling the form DS157, I came across the column 3 it Says "Full Name (in Native Alphabet) "
Does it mean I have to write name in Hindi? If so, how Immigration people recognize the language or what's the purpose of it.
Or Any of you know, What I should fill in this column.

I appreciate your reply. Please let me know.

Thank You so much.

yes, you have to fill them up in HINDI.

But I dont know how are they using the information but there may be point

Good luck

Column 3 (DS-157)

Hi Guys,
My friend did not fill that column with his native language; instead he wrote it in English. He came to know this only after sending his application. Immediately, he sent a withdrawal request. He sent his application on July 23,2003. He sent his withdrawal request on July 25,2003. Still, he has not received his papers and passport. He is totally in dark now. He enquired DC office. As of 08/11/2003, they have not received his papers at DC office yet, but his cashier check has been encahsed on 08/06/2003.
It looks, before his application reaches DC office, he has sent his withdrawal request to DC office. The fax number whatever they have given for sending withdrawal request is actually a DC number. Now he does not know what is going to happen? Will they wait and track his application? As soon as they get, will they send his papers back? Or Will they just ignore his withdrawal request?

Please post if you have any thought?

Thanks
Joe

As far as I know.... we should write in our own language....
for you its Hindi may be....

I have seen 4 of my friends cases cleared writing in thier native language....

I dont know what they look for in that script.....

I have read a post in the last month that the person did not write the name in native language (person from India) and they stamped the Visa. I hope the native language is not important for them the DS-157 asks for past visits to other countries, education and training and past jobs they want to track the background of person for security reasons

Thanks !!!

I am very glad to see this news. Now my friend's worry is, he does not know what is going to happen; he does not know whether he will get his papers back or will they continue to process his case. Please see my earlier post for more detail what happened in my friend's case. He sent a withdrawal request just to correct his application, but he has not received his papers yet. As of today, three weeks are over. He afraid that they should not send his papers back after a month. Please post, if you have any thought.

Thanks
Joe

Well in my personal opinion you should be fine as long as there are no other red flags.
I think the idea of having your name in native alphabet is take care of situations where the name in your native language is written different (both spelled/pronounced) than english.

Additionally I don't think it is good idea to withdraw at this moment at most if there is concern they will send the application back and ask you to send the filled application to DC this way you will not loose time (I haven't seen anyone getting rejected because of this yet?)
If you withdraw you will pretty much re-start all over again and as I said you might be lucky to have no issues in the first place itself.

Note I am not a lawyer hence all this is my opinion
