VISA question

i recently won a contest and was invited in the USA. I obtained a B1/B2 visa which says: Annotation "FOR NASA CONTEST IN CALIFORNIA APPROXIMATELEY ONE WEEK REQUESTED" Issue date: 02JUN2005; Expiration date: 01SEP2005. The thing is that I have family friends in California who invited me to stay at them for two weeks after i finish with the contest. That means i would have to stay for 3 weeks. I am concerned about the annotation which say "one week". Does it mean that i can not stay more than one week in the USA even if the VISA is valid for 3 months?

please advice me... THANK YOU

I guess you have to tell the Immigration Officer at the port of entry the duration of stay you need and explain what you intend to do. If he/she is convinced, you may be able to stay for your desired length.

Here your purpose is well defined. But the same time consulate granted visa until 01SEP2005. Suppose your contest postponed one week after you reached NASA, what do you do. Will you return to your home country without attending contest? Will you stay one more week or not!

Once you are at port of entry, tell the officer after one week contest, you want to see Disneyland/universal studio etc for one week. So that officer will issue a I 94 card with validity date for 2 or 3 weeks from the arrival date in USA.

Irrespective of your visa validity date in your passport, your I 94 validity date is very important. You have to leave USA before I 94 validity date after handing over I 94 card to the air line clerks.

Yours Visa has an Annotation "FOR NASA CONTEST IN CALIFORNIA APPROXIMATELEY ONE WEEK REQUESTED" even then when you say the Immigration officer and even then the officer grant you 3 weeks, still further in future why you apply again for another US visa that will effect you.
They will difenately check your departure and arrival dates.

I have a recent friend who suffered the same situation, READ TOPIC "Visa Issued then refused"

Be carefull and come back in 1 week or take the risk

This is NOT correct.

Irrespective of the visa annotation, if the I-94 granted at port of entry is for 4 or 5 weeks (say), then that person is allowed to stay that long.

You should definitely depart on or before the date stamped on the I-94 when you enter ..... that's all.

It will NOT cause problems if you stay within the I-94 dates.
