VISA number...?

In the wake of EB-3 retrogression to India, china and philippines, can anyone tell when a visa number gets allocated to your 485? (since that is stopping one to file/approve I-485).

I read somewhere that its allocated at the time of filing 485; is that true? If it is, then all the EB3 cases which already applied for 485 shouldn't get effected, since a visa number is already assigned? If its otherwise to your knowledge, please let us know.

Please throw some light about visa number allocation.

I recently read in this forum the whole process of VISA number allocation/assignment for each case. If I remember, it says the number is assigned when an officer working on the case deternimes the appl is ready to be ajdudicated.
 
I beleive the the visa number is needed when the officer is needs to file an I-181 "Creation of Alien Record" for you. That happens right before he is about to adjudicate your case, as goni mentioned.
 
Information please

I attended the local office interview on 20th of jan 2005
officer that interviwed me collected my i94 and also my index finger print.
Finally he told me and my wife that he appilied for our visa numbers, which will take two days, and after that in two weeks time he mentioned that i will recive my approval notice

is this is a normal process or ?????

please let me know
