Visa Number in case of Pending AOS

During my last couple of trips from Europe to USA, I noticed that airline must provide passenger's visa number, passport number etc. before flight departs.

If someone's status is "Pending AOS", what's the visa number ?

At check-in airline associate, asks for specific number (All numeric with exact length etc.), so A# or LIN# won't work.

Any experience ?

There is none. You do not require a visa to be paroled into the US, just like a Canadian like myself does not need a visa to enter in any non-immigrant status (except E, K and V).
