I'm having problem understanding the Visa number availability. They talk about cut off date, what do this mean and how do it affect applications that were recently file. I recently file through marriage in September. Someone please help. :)

Thanks

First of all, the availability of visa number only apply to all catergories other than immediate family of USC. If you are in one of those catergories, you will need to wait until your "priority date" become current...meaning a visa number is avaiable for you.

What you need to worry about is to watch if your priority date is before or after the cut off date. If it is before the cut off date, your date is current and your case will be processed and get a visa number if it is approved. If it is after the cut off date, you just have to wait.

Hope this will make sense to you. You can think of the date as the serving number where you go and wait in a line in the supermarket. If the number you have in your hand is called, you are current and you will be served.....Else...just wait.
