VISA needed to CANADA on RTD and GC holder?

One of my freind has RTD and GC, wants to fly to Canada, does she need visa?

I called the Canadian consulate, the agent said YOU DON'T NEED CANADIAN VISA to fly to canada when you use your GC and Passport.

I asked her what about US RTD, she says I think its same as passport but she has no knowledge about refugee travel document.

You need passport and GC if you fly.If you drive,GC is enough.

Well, apparently if you fly they MIGHT ask for a passport, but they don't always do. Take your RTD to be sure. Print out the relevant page from the CBSA website: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5023-eng.html

If you go all the way to the bottom there are pictures of different documents, and above the GC, it says that the holder requires no visa or passport when going to Canada directly from the US.

those who say GC is enough, i am not talking about driving, am talking about flying . so far no one has told me their expereince! waiting!

I've read of people on this forum flying to Canada without a passport. Again, the link I included is from the Canadian Border Services Agency and it says that someone with a GC nees NOT have anything else. NO ONE FLEW to canada from US with just RTD and GC AND NO VISA?

I asked canadian consulate and airlines, i am getting mixed answers from both. some saying i need passport, some saying don't.

If you have a GreenCard you don't need a visa to Canada. Only when you return do they might ask you for the passport, or in your case RTD. But you DO NOT need a visa to visit Canada. I just flew 2 weeks back to BC and was only asked for my passport when I returned to US since they need to stamp the return date or something. And also last year when I went to apply for a visa to Candian consulate with my RTD and w/o GC the lady told me to wait for my GC so I won't have to apply for a visa, and waste $80 on it. A GC holder returning from Canada doesn't need a stampable document. But, this is by land, as I've experienced it. Still, based on other forum posts, I think the same is the case for flights.

I flew to Canada twice already and both times while returning for some reason my greencard didn't scan through. They even took my fingerprints and a picture this time, and made me go to this room where they handed both my passport and GC to the officer. It happened twice already. So this time I asked the officer inside on what was going on and why I had to wait there everytime since last time was for an hour. He said since my GC was "new" they were making sure it was still in status (I have no idea what that means.). And so he stamped my passport with the return date. Now I have two return stamps. And while I also drove from BC to WA I only showed my GC and was fine without the Passport. So I guess it depends on which officer you get bumped into while traveling.
