Visa and Pregnancy

Hi Guys,

Quick query, we have been chosen for the lottery, my wifes number being EU000005***, therefore we are hoping for an interview around October or November time.

We have recently found out that we are expecting our first child which is due around March, which would be around the 6 month mark from the interview date of October. Has anyone had this issue before, we would really like to have our child here before we move, is this possible? ie would the embassy allow some grace before taking the baby to a new life in the US or would we have to be there before the end of the 6 months from our interview....if successful.

Also, when would be best to advise about the pregnancy, would the interview be sufficient?

It is acceptable for the applicant to request postponement of visa issuance upon the interview.
That means you still need to go to the interview
the interview itself without other notifications by you is 100% sufficient

You can attend the interview, get your visas issued and make a short trip to the US to activate the GC after which you can return home to have your baby. New immigrants are allowed a stay of up to 1 year following the acquisition of their new status to go back home and put their affairs in order.

If you plan on staying back for more than 1 year, then you will need to apply for a re-entry permit which allows you to stay back up to 2 years. Just remember the permit can allow be applied for from inside the US.
