Visa about to expire. Renew or new application

Hi,

My father has 10 years visitor visa but my mother got only 1 year visa. My parents had visited me in US in early 2007. They had a short vacation of 1.5 months and went back well before their timeline. I want to invite them both again in 2008. My mother’s 1 year visa will expire in April 2008. If my parents have to fix their travel from March 1st 2008, would my mother’s visa be an extension of what she has or she has to apply for a new visa altogether. What are the next steps? Would the paper work be any different as she already has an active visa? In the vfs-usa website, I did not come across an option of applying for an extension. Any information would be of great help. Please advice.

Thanks.

Your mother's visa expiry date has no connection to her authorized stay (if granted) in the US. She can request admission a day before her visa expires and an admitting officer may grant her a full six months on her I-94.

she can enter upto the actual expiry and still be granted six months of stay.

if she travels after the stamp expiry then she needs to apply for a new visa, there is no extension of the stamp, always a new application
