Hi, does anyone know if seasonal flu shot is required at time of your medical if outside of the US, and it's not in flu season in the country you're in? I am not certain on whether the seasonal flu shot requirement pertains to whether it is current US flu season or current flu season in country you are in. Common sense tells me it's latter, but any clarification helpful! Thanks.

Officially, flu shot vaccination is required for your medical only if you are older than 50. I'm older than 50, I had my flu shot last October, and just got my medical last week. I got the impression that the doctor would have waived the flu shot if I hadn't got it yet. The only vaccination he prescribed was a combined shot against tetanus and diphteria.

Not anymore. From the interview experiences I have been reading, they now require it for everybody. I have my interview in a month. I called up the Medical Center where I plan to go and was told that I will need 1.Flue shot, 2.MMR, 3.TD. (I am 26 btw) They also told me that the flue shot requirement was new this year.

thanks everyone.

Yeah, I understood it that now everyone has to get the flu shot during the flu season, and i was just unsure if it was the flu season of the country we're in or the US flue season (we're in Southern hem). we are going to try to avoid the flu shot, and can do if we book our appointment with civil surgeon on 1st April onwards.

I have been having a little trouble finding out exactly what vaccines are required for my husband and I and our 6 year old son. I thought the only vaccines husband and I required was MMR and varicella, but now forgot where I read that!

The official website lists a long list but says only age appropriate ones relevant. So i think it was the CDC website I checked for age appropriate schedule and I think that's where I got it. I want to be 100% though as we might see our ciivil surgeon only 2-3 weeks before our interview date as we do want to avoid that flu shot for us all.

I actually got a blood test for antibodies and I am immune to measles and rubella but not mumps, does that mean I have to get the MMR as I dont think they make single mumps vaccines any more? Husband awaiting his results. I'm also immune to varicella, pertussis and some others.

I wish this all was more clear!

I actually think it might be somewhat subjective/discretionary/individually assessed when it comes to assessment of what vaccines you need, with your civil surgeon. I sort of want to have none until the day I see him/her, to avoid uneccessary ones, but then again, worried that if the civil surgeon doesnt have a certain vaccine in his/her office, we'll have to come back again. Plus not wanting us all to get lots of shots at once.

From my understanding, flu vax's required during US flu season, for ages 6 months and up. Got it from USCIS. Perhaps this is a new thing.
