Vacationing in Mexico under TN extension?

Hi you all,

this may sound like, i should know it, but i'm not a 100% sure of it.

I just applied for my visa extension and was granted. I got my I-94 piece by mail.
I will be visiting Mexico in April 25th and stay for 15 days on vacations.

With my notification right next to my new i-94 there is a record card, in the text above it mentions the following:

He should keep the right part (new I-94) with his form I-94, arrival-departure record. This part plus the I-94 should be turned in when departing the US if he will not be returning in this classification during the above validity period. The left part (this is my record card) is for his records, and can be used in applying for a new TN visa. He should present it, along with any other required documentation, when applying for reentry as a TN at a port of entry or pre-flight inspection station.

I want to believe this is telling me I should not turn my I-94 in when leaving the US because I'm coming back under the same classification, but I know people at the airport is going to ask me for it! :(

Now i have a couple of questions:
1.- when leaving at the airport. what i-94 should i give? my white original i-94 i got when i came here a year ago which will expire in April 23rd? both or none? as my approval notice says i should attached my new i-94 to my original I-94

2.- when coming back to the US, what should i give to prove I'm still on good status? my i-94? or will they give me a new one? i know i will show my visa and passport but what I'm concern about is, if they keep my new I-94, what will i have as proof of my status?

Please let me know any comment will be very welcome as I'm just trying to figure out what documents I should bring with me to Mexico

The record slip (info stub) is the key piece that you need to keep.

I-94s, for those who have applied for TN by I-129, are really disposable.

So,
1. Both I-94s can be returned. As a matter of habit, you should always keep a copy of ALL your I-94s in your files.
2. You will show them the info stub, or, even better, a copy of the I-797 approval notice.
