USCIS related SSN Problem on H1-B

I have an employee who applied for an SSN upon arrival in the US in March. The SSA informed him a few weeks later that the "immigration" folks found a mismatch with his date of birth in their system and his application form for the SSN. He was asked to resolve this situation with the "immigration" folks. The employee then made an appointment at the local DO at Newark and presented his case. He was informed that there was no mismatch and the passport information matched the H1 information that mapped to the SSN application. He informed the SSA offfice accordingly. That was in April. In May, with no movement on his case, he made another appointment at the local DO at Newark and re-stated his case. The newark officer assured him that they would communicate that there was no discrepancy to the SSA. However, in July, the SSA local office yet says that they are awaiting a clearance from "immigration".
Does anyone know what the right channels to approach are? Anybody in a similar situation? Is there an "immigration" division of records that deals with this situation? Do the port of entry immigration folks address such a situation? Any pointers would help.
Thanks

Check the SS application form, you must have put wrong date. Go and reapply SSN once again.

Actually, the SSA showed this employee a copy of the application form (as entered in their system) and it matched the passport birth date. But, the re-application sounds like an idea worth pursuing. Thanks for the advice.
