USCIS Announces the Closing of Agency Offices on January 2, 2007
Action Follows Designation of a National Day of Mourning Honoring President Ford

WASHINGTON – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that agency offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. All appointments and interviews originally scheduled for Tuesday are postponed. USCIS will reschedule those appointments and notify customers of the new appointment schedule.
Customers with an INFOPASS appointment are reminded that USCIS cannot reschedule for them. The customer will need to use INFOPASS to schedule a new appointment at a time that is convenient. INFOPASS is available from the home page of the USCIS website at www.uscis.gov.
USCIS’ announcement follows yesterday’s proclamation by President Bush marking January 2, 2007 as a National Day of Mourning allowing the Nation to pay respects following the death of President Gerald R. Ford, 38th President of the United States.

What happens for the fingerprint appoinment?

What happens for the fingerprint appoinment scheduled on 01/02? Is it cancelled and will be rescheduled automatically?
 
I have an fingerprint appointment on Jan 2nd.

I understand that once you have the fingerprint notice, one can go Before the Appointment date to have it done. So as per my understanding, I could technically go for fingerprint before my next official appointment.

Any thoughts ??

If I am not wrong FP is done by independent ASCs, not at the USCIS offices.
You shld be fine on the 2nd.

Yes you can go before or after your appointment date. For example, if your FP appointment is for Jan 2 go on Jan 3. Don't delay too much like going on Jan 28th.
 
Biometrics appt for GC Renewal

Hello I had the Biometrics appt for green card Renewal today Jan 2, 2007. However, due to the federal holiday today, the appt. was cancelled. On USCIS website it says they will reschedule the appt.

Should I wait for USCIS response or can I go for the biometrics on Jan 3, 2007 without an appt.?

Go for the appointment on Jan 3. If they turn you down ask them to reschedule you for a new date right then and there. If that does not work, then you have to wait for them to reschedule.
 
Was ASC at Hartford, CT open for fingerprinting on 2nd Jan 2007

Does anyone know if the Application Support Center at Hartford, CT was closed or open on 2nd Jan? I had a fingerprinting appointment for 2nd Jan and didn't go since i assumed ASC is part of USCIS and it is closed due to Federal Holiday.

I spoke to USCIS customer service today, when i asked whether the ASC at Hartford, CT was open yesterday, the reply is "we don't know and it depends if the ASC is operated by contractors or not."

Btw, i went to ASC at Hartford and gave my fingerprinting today eventhough my appointment was for yesterday.
 
I think I mentioned earlier, the ASC's are run by independent contractors. They do not have to follow federal holidays.
