Uscis Memo Regarding Delays In N400 Receipting!

Sorry for asking a naive question. But, I dont know this form number I-797.
Is this a "receipt for the N-400"?

It seems like they are talking about "approval notice" in that link? What approval notice are they mentioning?

Thanks for your patience in explaining, I am not aware of this I-797.

I have lived with this I-797 since I got my H1-B 12 years ago. I was surprised CrossHairs did not come across I-797 at all before

The first time I went to consulate in India, I only had a photocopy of the I-797 for visa stamping and the officer kept insisting this is a photocopy and I kept arguing this is the original. The lawyers cover letter mentioned this is original, but clearly it was a copy now that I know how the original looks like. I got the H1-B visa, (even remember the date now!) but the officer told me to get the original otherise the port of entry officer will not let me in Philadephia.

Ok, I did get the Receipt I-797 during LPR...just forgot the Form number...last I dealt with was 5-6 years ago during LPR probably.

For AR-11, I dont get any I-797. I send in the AR-11 and thats it. Its quiet from USCIS end - they dont send anything back (other than my postal return receipt from certified mail!)
