Here are the latest processing dates by USCIS: (as of August 16, 2007)
https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/ptimes.jsp

In the case of San Jose, CA

Looks like the dates haven't moved much (N400s are being processed with a Receipt Date of December 7, 2006. Not sure what the dates were for the July 16 report.)

In the case of San Antonio, TX (My field office)

Looks like San Antonio office is processing N400 reasonably "at pace":
According to the July 16th Processing Dates:
N400s were being processed with a Receipt Date of December 12, 2006.
According to the latest August 16th Processing Dates:
N400s are being processed with a Receipt Date of January 12, 2007.
(i.e. the backlog remains at 216 days)

Here's the latest posting by USCIS:

Atleast in the case of San Antonio, looks like the huge influx of recent N400 applications hasn't affected the backlog (yet!).

How about other Field Offices? Have the dates moved much?

I wonder if these dates are accurate or they mean anything. For most of the country's Field Offices, they seem to be processing for a Receipt Date of January 12, 2007.
There are some exceptions: San Jose, CA for example is processing for a Receipt Date of December 07, 2006. I wonder if thats just a mistake.

Does the uniform processing date of January 12, 2007 for most Field Offices imply a "centralized N400" processing system of uniform load distribution? I wonder...

If someone's PD is earlier than the processing time, but his case is still not transferred to field office yet(e.g. he got stuck in FBI name check), is there anything he can do?

These numbers are baloney. I have seen cases in Atlanta/NY with PD April finishing with interview. I think USCIS tries to adjust the dates to reflect their 6-7 month processing window so that when people call them they can stonewall saying its still with-in processing window.
