USCIS enquiry

I called the USCIS customer service today and commenced an enquiry. The customer service rep gave me a reference number. The rep was quite nice although she couldn't (or maybe didn't) tell me whether my name check was cleared or not. My attorney had sent a letter earlier in the month.

What was interesting is that she also mentioned that "we know that there has been a delay in adjudicating
employment based I-485 applications at VSC" (quoting the rep).

She said that I should get a response to my enquiry in 2-4 weeks. Lets see what happens. I sincerely hope that my I-485 gets adjudicated soon.

Good news around the corner

Its a good sign!! Getting the reference number means your case is visible to the officers now. They can not ignore your case forever now. You should hear the approval withing 60 days.

I got the letter from VSC after 30 days of getting reference number saying "Your case is under review and you will get the decision within 60 days..." and got the approval after about 40 days. (total 60-70 days).

Good luck!!

Inquiry at VSC about impending I-485.

I also did an inquiry about my impending I-485 at VSC. Got a reference number and told that "I will get a response from VSC within 30 days; if no response from VSC within 30 days, please call back."

My basic information:
I-140 (NIW) approved in September 2004.
Priority date: March 2003.
I-485 submitted in December 2004.
Fingerprints done in April 2005.
Fingerprints review received by VSC in May 2005.
Priority Date is current and two years overdue.

Thanks.

I also did a status enquiry and I got a mail from uscis that required investigation into ur background check remains open.

These are time buying tactics ......

The adjudicators are Govt Lawyers and they choose their words with extreme care. No body can do anything after this kind of letter. However they are working .. we are getting lotsa approvals past months.

If you get an RFE ... its a great sign. ,,, not better than approval ;)

I did the same thing one and half month ago but haven't heard anything back since them. I called one of my friends, he said he did 3-4 queries but never got back from CIS. So dont expect too much.

Letter from VSC
Thursday, April 13, 2006
On 03/07/2006 you contacted us about your case.
" Based on your request we researched the status of this case. We are actively processing this case. However, we have to perform additional review on this case and this has caused a longer processing time.If you do not receive a decision or other notice of action from us within 6 months of this letter, please call costumer service."
What you guys think about this?

I did not receive any response to the first USCIS inquiry (June 19) even after 5 weeks. I called the USCIS national customer service again today (July 25) and again got a reference no. Not expecting much out of this!

Had called Vermont Service center directly (using the so called "POJ" method on July 20 and reached an immigration officer. I was told that they were "awaiting results of routine security check". I will probably call them again in a month.

My attorney's paralegal tells me that these are standard responses - doesn't mean much. My attorney's office is apparently sending inquiry letters to VSC every week (he thinks it is okay!, although it might be a little too much).

Also sent the so called privacy act FOIPA request to FBI today.

I guess, next thing would be to send the letter to the Senator.

It is such a grand wastage of time!!!

At the very end after calling the 1-800 number, dial 4 (the option talking abt multiple applications etc..), you will get connected directly to VSC and will be able to talk to an immigration officer.

Hi All,
I want to check the status of my case. Please let me know based on your experiences, what would be the ideal way to contact USCIS.

Please check my signature and let me know whether its too early to contact USCIS.

What about second fingerprints?!! For those who got stuck in the priority date muddle - obviously had their first fingerprints expired. So would be they have a NEW namecheck, when they submit their fingerprints again? Thanks.

fp

If your case was pre-adjudicated in the past with NC cleared, then your new FP goes straight to the Service Center.

thanks jhawilla, hope to get your thoughts on this.

i know my NC was cleared once in 2003 (got email response from Tom Hardy's office @ FBI) - but i don't know if it was pre-adjudicated. as i got RFE's later on, i am guessing the adjudication was still pending - when the priority date was not current. as soon as my priority came back in, the file moved to an officer and fingerprint notices were issued. when my wife went for an interim EAD, the officer mentioned that background checks are being processed. hence the confusion, is it NC ... or is it IBIS or any other check?
