USCIS Appointment Need Help

Good morning everyone I need help here and I have a concern and some questions regarding an upcoming appointment I have with the USCIS.
I applied for a California State ID and this month I got a letter stating that the DHS was unable to validate my documentation. This was really disappointing to me and unfortunate as I was really hoping to get my ID soon.
I was advised to contact the USCIS first and then the DMV, so I went to infopass to see what went wrong.
The documents I provided was my unrestricted SSN, my expired guatemalan passport and my I-94 stating I was admitted as an asylee pursuant to sec (208) and that it's valid indefinitely.

This is the documentation I currently have and will take to my appointment and I am hoping that everything will be okay, since I learned that asylees are not required to have an EAD to work I stopped renewing mine because it was a lot of money. I have my past expired EAD's and I have no renew my home passport since I am an asylee from there and it would not make since to renew it. Has this happened to anyone else? Any advice is appreciated.

Hi Donkeybear24 ,I haven't been to that situation but it does not make sense DHS say they cannot verify your information since you are an asylee. There should be a problem of communication between DHS and USCIS or DMV concerning your case. From my point of view ,you have everything needed to apply for a state ID or driver license ,just the unrestricted SSN shows a lot.So my advice is to go with those documents to USCIS ,they will tell you what is going on ,trust me it will be fine don't freak out ,its just a misunderstand ,all will be fine.Good luck

Asylees arent required to have an EAD IF you are a GC holder. Now, addressing your issue...the problem is your national passport. DMV needs some kind of Valid ID to register you. You can renew your NP if you want to. There is no problem at all as long as you dont go back to your cop. I have used my NP and i didnt have problems.

Sory bro ,but you cannot renew your passport, this is because any intent that DHS will see you have in relationship with the COP will jeopardize your asylum status like renewing your passport. If you said you fear persecution you dont need to renew your COP ,intead if you want to travel ,you apply for Travel document or get a driver license and wait until you naturlize before getting a US passport.

You are totally wrong! Last year I went through secondary inspection at dulles international airport and I ASKED THE IMMIGRATION OFFICER AND HE TOLD ME THERE IS NO PROBLEM AT ALL, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T RETURN TO YOUR COP.

RTD is for people who are asylees or adjusting status or refugees that fled their countries and can't obtain a passport to travel and want to stay out of the country for a short period of time before or while applying for Gc.

RP is for people who intend to stay out of the country for more than one year and want to return to America.

Once you adjusted your status '' i485'' you are no longer an asylee, you're a permanent resident.

just from what you said ,you have already answered the reason why you dont need to renew your COP passport.I won't make this an argument but if you want renew your passport!!!

Also ,you are wrong by saying ,"Once you adjusted your status '' i485'' you are no longer an asylee, you're a permanent resident" because if that was the case ,you could just go back to your COP.The reason you are considered an asylee is because you are not a US citizen ,being a permanent resident doesn't mean you are a US citizen ,you are simply gonna live here ,so if you decide to go back to COP ,if something happens to you the US wont help you because you are not a citizen ,its untill you naturalized that you can be considered a citizen.SO WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THAT YOU ARE PERMANENT RESIDENT WHO GOT THAT FROM ASYLUM .
Also one reason you dont have to renew the COP passport is because you have everything the government gave to you if you want to travel ,they gave you RTD ,A person with refugee or asylum status who wishes to travel outside
the United States needs a Refugee Travel Document in order to
return to the United States.
In most cases, a refugee or asylee may use the Refugee Travel
Document for travel in place of a passport. The Refugee Travel
Document is similar in appearance to a U.S. passpor

THERE IS NO NEED TO RENEW YOU COP PASSPORT AND THAT CAN JEOPARDIZE YOUR STATUS EVEN AT THE NATURALIZATION LEVEL.JUST BE CARE FULL ,YOU DON'T NEED TO ACCEPT WHAT AM SAYING ,AM JUST ADVISING OTHERS WHO WILL COME ACROSS THIS.

I guess you work for USCIS, yeah right!

First of all: If you read my post, you will understand what I said and I didn't say a word about going back to your COP. I guess you don't know that, but once you filled for your GC, the APPLICATION I485 shows "Asylee/ Refugee ADJUSTING STAUTS to PERMANENT RESIDENT" there is a difference between ASYLEES and REFUGEES. Go to www.uscis.gov

Well, the reason you are an asylee isn't because YOU ARE NOT A CITIZEN, the reason you are an asylee that's because you FLED your country and was accepted as an "asylee". Just to remind you, in case you don't know, ASYLEES ARE REQUIRED TO APPLY FOR ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS A YEAR AFTER BEING LEGALLY PRESENT IN THE COUNTRY. However, I AM NOT A REFUGEE. I am an ASYLEE

! Do you know the difference? Ok, in case you don't, I will explain it to you.
Asylees, are granted asylum once they have been physically present in the Country.
Refugees, are those who have been granted outside of the country.

Note: As a refugee, you are required by law to apply for permanent resident status 1 year after being admitted to the United States. As an asylee, you are not required to apply for permanent resident status after being granted asylum for 1 year, although it may be in your best interest to do so.

If you read my post, you will see that I DIDNT MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT GOING BACK TO YOUR COUNTRY. I said that, there is no problem renewing it or traveling abroad "not COP". I know at least 4 people who NEVER APPLIED FOR A RTD and they never had any problems and they are all citizens today!

Now, if you know more than the Immigration Officer that I spoke to THEN I WILL LISTEN TO YOU!

I know what a RTD is! I have applied for one! Have you read my timeline? RTD's are give for those who have been granted asylum and want to travel abroad, for those who are adjusting status or for those who have adjusted status "GC" and can't obtain a passport from their country

By the way, you should read more topics about "GC+NP, GC+RTD"...this issue is really old

I don't advise to renew NP and use it for travel. But some people did it and nothing happened while applying citizenship. It is better if you use RP or RTD according to your status. I think asylees can't get RP. It is your choice or decision.
