All,

I successfully finished my interview today. Hard to believe that I finished the entire process in 3 months flat.

The interview was a breeze. Fortunately I also finished my oath as well and received the Nat. cert.

Thanks to all the contributing members on this forum for their invaluable support.

What was your DO?

Congratulations! :) Isn't it amazing the current speed? I can't complain as I am about to have two years of citizenship under my belt, but it would have been good to have such speedy naturalizations back in my time.

Congratulations

Congratulations!

I assume the Interview and Oath fell after the 5 yr anniversary of your GC if you applied 90 days before 5 or 3 years.

@Bobsmyth - No they weren't! Ethel wasn't there either!
@aniretake - Fairfax,VA
@PittsfieldMA - Yes the interview was after the 5 year wait.

Congratulations. Damn I wish Phx did the same day Oath, even though it is a lot quicker process now than it used to be, the waiting is stressful. :) I wonder why some do and some do not.

I had posted a CIS Ombudsman's report about this topic a few months ago. The same day oath only occurs in a minority of offices. At the most basic level, it has to do with the relationship that the USCIS DO has with the Federal District Court in the same jurisdiction.

Technically speaking, only the Federal courts have the authority to conduct naturalization ceremonies. However, in some cases, the USCIS DO has the authority to conduct administrative naturalization ceremonies if, within the jurisdiction of that Federal court, the time period between completion of interview and scheduling for oath ceremonies is routinely more than 45 days.

In other cases, such as at the Fairfax VA DO, it appears that the USCIS DO has negotiated an arrangement with the local Federal District Court to conduct administrative naturalization ceremonies for most straightforward cases, reserving only name changes and other special cases to oath ceremonies at the courthouse.

If I can find my old post on this topic with the report, I will post it here.

Here is the link to the report called, CIS Ombudsman Study and Recommendations on Naturalization Oath Ceremonies, Dec 2008. One of the most interesting bits of information is in Footnote 13, which highlights exactly what small percentage of offices have same day oath ceremonies.

BTW, Congratulations Jughead! :)
