I am not sure if this is the correct part of the forum to post this but I thought it is very interesting and important to mention a scenario that happened:
I and family are outside the US. We are not US citizens but our son is born and the US and has a passport since birth from the US.
Prior to getting a visa for India (OCI/PIO/Long term tourist visa) I went to extend my sons passport at the local US embassy.
Since my son is now around 8 years old they said that they cannot extend the passport until we show development photos of the child from birth till now.
We did the next day. They then took the photos and asked us to leave the room and interviewed my son alone asking him if he was the same person in the photo. He said yes.
So far they have not extended the passport. So cannot apply for Indian visa yet.
** I would like to just point out to those parents returning to countries outside US with small children with US passports that sometimes they could face similar problems.
