US Passport Pictures & New York Consulate

Has anyone used standard US Passport pictures with white background when applying for OCI at New York consulate? If yes, were they accepted?

Thanks, Ravi.

They seem to mention in the OCI application (USE LIGHT COLOR background and they also explicitly say, NOT white background)!??

US passport typically has white background photos.

Do people have issues with this for OCI?

Found some threads - but not sure if I have to go through all those hoops for "light color" background. Can we submit regular US style passports that COSTCO takes (I took mine at costco, and they use White background!!!) Mine is SFO consultate.

Folks,
Can anyone give some more info on this "white background vs light color background".
Will the SFO consulate or Ministry of India reject if we send regular US 2x2 photos which typically Costco etc take with white background!?

No issues at SFO Consulate

All of us in Family used the same pictures that we sent for our passport which was taken at Costco with white background. I had them scanned at home, used epassportphotots.com to create a 4 X 6 passport sheet which will have 6 of them. Uploaded them to costco photo center at 14cents a piece this was the cheapest. Used these for the OCI and has been accepted, granted and card dispatched. Hope this helps

They don't seem to care much as long as the photos are clear and the face is visible. Also they will contact you if there are any problems with the appl and it does not delay the proc time.

ok, thanks to sv786 and aabbcc11 - then I may just gather the boldness to submit my Costco pics (white background) :)
Since, I dont know where I need to run around and get "light" background etc. I'll prefer to avoid doing that research and time investment, if usually these costco pics are accepted.

CrossHairs: Which photos did you end up submitting? The ones with white background? Also, did you trim them to get rid of the white border?

Thanks.

realnewbie,
I am just getting around to submitting. I'll submit the ones from costco (white) - there is no "border" - in regular US passport photos, there is no border, right? So, I dont see one to trim. Just 2" x 2" photo.

I am a little confused about the number of photos to send: Do we need to send a total of 3 (2 pasted on each application form + 1) or 5 (2 pasted on each application form + 3). thanks

It depends on the consulate you are applying through - SFO asks for 3, some other asks for as many as 5. Check the instructions at the web site of of your particular consulate.
