Child born in us is a us citizen irrespective of parents status including if they are illegal. Why do you ask with respect to all these statuses.

Does not matter what is your visa status if your child is born in US then he/she is a US citizen. You can obtain SSN and US passport for the child anytime.

There were folks in congress who wanted to grant citizenship to kids only when at least one of the parents was either a citizen or permanent resident. I know that Australia has a similar law...but I doubt that it will ever get through in the US.

Amending the Constitution is an almost impossible task. Do not worry about it.

Approval from 2/3 of both houses of Congress, and 3/4 of the states is required , if I remember right. Given the current bitter divide between the two main parties, this is not going to happen anytime soon...

I was quite amazed to hear that most countries of the world, don't allow for assumed citizenship at birth. Ireland just recently changed their laws. Most of the EU doesn't grant citizenship at birth for the child of foreigners.
