US green card holder sponsoring a sibling

Hi
Is it a good idea to sponsor a sibling to study in the US for someone who has US green card. Will it decrease or increase the chances of getting a student visa for the prospective student?
 
meaning filing for i 134 for support of the prospective student. Also providing evidence of one's finances (bank statements, tax returns etc.) as an evidence that the US based sibling will support the cost of education of the prospective student.
 
In my personal opinion an I-134 weakens the case of an NIV applicant since it proves that the applicant is not financially sound on his/her own and needs a US based financial sponsor.
