Hi to all! I want to tell you my experince. My interview was on 2/2/2006 in Plaza,NY. I was called after 5 hours, but interview lasted for 15 minutes only.. Immigration lady spoke with a heavy accesent, like russian or slovakian and so fast!!? I can hardly understand her! Anyway, I passed the Interview, but to my surprise she asked for more documents, like phone bills, morgage, lights bill, joint account, health insurance since 2002! I was lucky to have most of papers like health insurance, joint account, but who has morgage, phone, light bills since 2002? Legally you destroy all this after 3 years! And the way we moved to so many states, who need to keep them?
After Interview she gave me a form N-652, that I passed, but decision pending!
When I got this form I told her, that I have most documents with me, so do you, because I send them before and saw my file was full. Anyway, dont argue with them, I just felt she did not want to spend time looking througth! Her answer was to "go to the girls and they will help you"!My citizenship was based marriage to an American, who was in the Navy for 25 years serving his country!
Is that the way to treat us like skam bags?

Anyway, we went to the "girls window'' as was described. We met a superviser, but a lady in her 50th, took our documents, and promised will be fine. She said the letter for my oat to be expected a in 30-60 days time.
Im happy, that its almost over, with former INS, and I and my husband still feel disgusted, the attitude, overall, I said all!!!!!! I wish to say something positive!

Good luck , I am from NYC too, my NAT application is thru employement though.

Can you post your time line please ?

Thanks.

I took interview today and passed .Here is my experience

My interview letter says interview at 9:45AM. More than 10 years GC holder ,which got based on marriage with USC.
At 8:30 We had breakfast at Macdonalds across Federal Plaza and did last minutes civil questions study. Before that , I went Fedex Kinko's on Duan street(within one block from federal plaza) to make copies for all documents I brought.

At 9:30 Go to entrance on Worth Street of federal plaza with my spouse. 10 people line before security check.
At 9:40 Got 7 th floor's room 700(it is not the room number on the interview letter) .It is a big room for more than 500 ppl can wait.
And go to window 52 to give the NOA letter . And take seat.
At 9:50 I was called to Door 2.
At 10:15 interview finished PASSED!! My spouse gave me hug and kiss!!
At 12:36 Got oath letter which held on 2/27/2006 ( waited for almost 2 hours)

Documents I brought ,
(http://www.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?t=197782 is best thread)
1.Interview letter
2.Green card , Passport ,(No photo-ID or driver's license cus I dont have both)
3. Tax return 5years (but one of them is missing, only W-2 form,so actually 4 years)
4.Marrige certificates,Divorce Ammulment descrees
5.Social Security card
6.Employment letter
7.Utility bills , bank statements
8. I-130
9. all copy of above documents(except tax return) and N-400
And made them organized.(separate original ones from copy ,put post-it's with the document names on them

Interview flows like below
0. Enter the door 2 (there is door 1 on opposite side ,its big room so that door 1 is far from door 2), there are lots of cubicles like normal offices. I took interview in one of them.
1.Swear to tell the truth then take seat
2. Hand Passport,GC, to the officer.
3. other docs to the officer.
4. 10 civil questions (detail later)
5. dictations( "She can speak English very well","I drive white car")
6. reading ( 5 lines sentences about US history)
7. Questions about previous marrige
8. Officer check tax return for 2years ( less than 30 sec)
9. answering N-400 questions( this takes most of the interview time)
like "were you member of communist?", "have you ever deported?".... and all questions of Oath of Allegiance.
10. asked if I want to change name( she said it's easy )

<What I felt about the interview>
The officer was nice. Feel it's better to wear formal cuz the officer in formal suit.
Copying of documents and making them organized seems to make her feel good.
You should study all of 100 civil questions and get used to the Yes-No questions of N-400.

<civil questions>
1.what are the first 10 amendments to the Constitution called?
2.who wrote the star spangled banner?
3.who was the main writer of the Declaration of Independence?

Some CIS officers are nice, some of them are natural born s.o.b.'s...and most of them have the feeling that they are superior to us and that we owe them for...messing up our lives.

If you feel the urge to say something positive, wait until you become an American citizen, and then yell from the bottom of your lungs: "F*** CIS, I'm free now"!!!!!
...as far as I'm concern, this is the only "positive" thing I can say about them
:D

Finally, I became US citizen today!!!!
The location of the ceremony is New york college of Tech on Jay street, Brooklyn,NY.
The time of ceremony on the oath letter is 9:00AM.

We arrived the place at 8:30AM.
We entered the building with my spouse. My spouse is led to a big conference room because he is a guest.
All guests seated the backside of the conference hall. people for ceremony sits front side. Everybody in same hall.

I filled out the oath letter's question(on back side of oath letter) at table in front of the hall doors(because they should be filled on the day of oath) and they gave me a seat number . then I gave GC to INS.
And I got message letter from the presisent and paper on which aoth of allegiance and pledge of allegence are written.

I enter the hall and was led to the frontside and handed the oath letter to INS person.
and got seated. There are 3 sections of seats A,B,C. Mine was A. Time was 8:50.
There were lots people seated. almost 200 people there.
Then wait ,wait wait. Finally at 9:40 ceremony started. At that time, about 400 people for oath front . About 300 guests seated at backside of hall.

First, all people for ceremony were asked to stand up and raise right hand.
A man read the oath of allegiance , we repeated as he said.
Second , asked to look at American flag and do the same about Pledge of allegience.
Third , The man told "Congralurations, Now you are American citizens!!".
Every body applaused.

Fourth, INS men tried to play DVD of Bush's message, But It didn't work.So that's it.
Naturalization certificate was handed to new citizens(including me :) ) from the first row.
Time was 9:55 .

Waited for 40 mins, ceremony took just for only 15 mins. So fast.

* according to INS person I talked, If you lost the oath letter , you would be rescheduled. So when you found you lost it , better call INS asap.

CONGRATULATION!!!!

You've said that there were a lot of people, about 400...this week I'll attend my own Oath ceremony along with another...5,000
:D

Correction: only...4,999 people besides me :D :D :D

Suzy

With such large numbers of people being naturalized, I really wonder if the name check problem is so widespread? Most people on this board are people who are proactive, savy people who use these boards and have access to a lot more information. What about the rest of the general pool of people who will be amongst the 5000 or so people receiving their citizenship along with you.

Good wishes for your own "big" day:)
