Hi,

I finished my 5 yrs of residency in US and I am a green card holder. Unfortunately during my stay here in US, I was charged with a Petty Theft for a $40 merchandise. The Charges were Dismissed and I just had to pay Fine in Court. There was no jail time or any probation.

Is it advisable for me to apply for my US Citizenship? Also, If I decide to go out of Country and Re-enter to the country with my Green Card, can I be Denied Re-entering US?

Please let me know, if anyone has been in similar situation.

Any help or advise is appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't see why you will be denied entry. Make sure you take all the paperwork with you when you travel including the receipt of that fine that you have already paid, proof of payment may be. You will be fine.

Check with an immigration lawyer who is experienced in criminal matters before leaving the country or applying for citizenship. The fact that you paid a fine can be interpreted as guilt by USCIS, and depending on the exact classification of the crime and what you were charged with it could be a deportable offense.
