So you were born in the US with a US birth certificate and your parents were not in the US with a special status, for example as diplomats?

Then you are a US citizen:

A child born on American soil automatically gets U.S. citizenship, unless the child is born to a foreign government official who is in the United States as a recognized diplomat. [...] Anyone born with U.S. citizenship retains it for life unless he or she deliberately gives it up -- for example, by filing an oath of renunciation.

You should actually apply for a US passport to be able to travel to the US, since US citizens need to enter the US with a US passport. You can have both a Canadian and a US passport.

Definitely. My brother in law was born in the USA under circumstances like yours. His parents were Canadians and were in the US for graduate studies. After graduation they returned to Canada with their US-born baby and lived there happily ever after. Brother in law didn't apply for a US passport until he was something like 40 years old. He hadn't really realized he was a US citizen before that. But he was, and it wasn't a problem. Since claiming his US citizenship he's become keenly interested in US politics and has voted in some elections, although he still lives in Canada.

Assuming your parents were not diplomats, you are a US citizen as a result of being born in the US. You did not lose your US citizenship by having Canadian citizenship. You can use your birth certificate to apply for a US passport at a consulate in Canada.
