Hi there. Me and my Husband live in Vancouver, Canada. I was born in Fl. USA and I am sponsoring him for a green card and then we are going back to Florida. I have a few problems:
I don't have a Social Security Number that I know of because I havent lived there since I was a kid. I am 21 years old right now.
He is from China and is living in Canada on a Student Visa
Neither of us have jobs because we are students in College and he isnt even allowed to work here.

Oh ya and weird thing:
I went to the american consulate in Vancouver and they said that if we applied through the vancouver office then we would have the interview in Montreal?
But if we sent the application to Dakota, then we could send a petition for alien fiancee as well and have the interview in Vancouver? How does this make sense, we are already married. I dont get it

Can anybody help me? Thanks!!

You have to establish yourself first. Get SSN because you're gonna need it. Just you your parent's address or any relative from your hometown.

You can still sponsoring him to get GC by having co-sponsor from your relative here in US.

Does everybody get their ssn when they are born or something?
I don't have any relatives in the states, other than an alcoholic aunt who i highly doubt would help me. Would it help if I got a job here even though I have only had it for a couple months?

Do you have a birth certificate from US? I think you can use that to apply for SSN.

It used to be you have to apply once the baby born but now the hospital automatically apply SSN for the baby.

So I guess in your case you have to apply. Here is the link that might help you http://www.socialsecurity.gov/ssnumber/

Plus at least you need to have a point of residency in the US. I don't know how the part of the Affidavit of Support will work since you are working and living in Canada? You will need a joint sponsor that lives in the US territory.
And yes you need your SSN, you must apply for it.
And is true kind of weird that they said that when you are already married unless they misunderstood you.
My first sugestion would be going to the American Consulate (yes, again) with ALL your paperwork and try to explain again and reply that what they are telling is totally different of what even their website is saying, to see if the misunderstanding is clarify.
Good luck,

Does anybody know if there is another way to fulfill the income requirements to sponsor someone? A large amount of savings? if so, how much? Or A job offer in the states for once we get there?

Besides an income you can use your assets to meet the minimum income requirment. Assets could be, real estate, bonds, savings money, etc.

The minimum required income in your case, for example, being 2 persons we're talking $16,037/year

CIS considers assets as being acceptable for affidavit of support in a value equal or bigger than five times the difference between the minimum income requirment for your case and your actual income.

Since your actual income is $0.00, I think is safe to say that you'll have to have 5 x $16,037 in your bank to prove you can support your husband = $80,185.00

I'm not sure that's the exact amount but in that...neighbourhood ;)
